Welcome to Micronized, a South African based mining and minerals processing group which has supplied industrial minerals and related services for 40 years. Micronized has earned impeccable credentials through marketing a varied array of products into a diversity of sectors, including paint and coatings, glass, plastics, rubber, automotive, ceramics, adhesives, paper, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
Founded in 1972, Micronized is South Africa’s foremost supplier of specialty minerals. An industry pioneer, the firm has spearheaded several innovations and world firsts. These include the development of vermiculite for medicinal carriers and as a filter aid in the brewery, beverage and dry-cleaning industries, as well as asbestos replacement systems. 2011/2012 – Capital expansion into logistics and acknowledgement for our status as best-practice international producer. As a focus for the future, export markets will be further developed as raw material resources continue to evolve.
2010 - Micronized launches it's new website.
2010 - The Micronized laboratory sits firmly at the technological forefront of its field. We offer customers professional advice and technical service on over 30 different industry uses, including the formulation of optimised paints, coatings, filler and extender systems.
2010 - Ever progressive in its environmental awareness, Micronized introduces a range of innovative polymers which reduces solvent use in enamel paints and decreasing their per litre cost to the benefit of consumers everywhere.
2010 – We return to our roots! After 38 years as a vermiculite distributor, Micronized re-enters the industry as a processor. With the advent of a state-of-the-art vermiculite processing plant, capable of an impressive 500 000 bag per annum output-Supply to the South African horticultural, animal feed and construction spheres begins in earnest.
2009 – Kaolin production commences. A supply chain to the agricultural, metallurgical, coating and soap industries is established.
2008 – Micronized establishes a specialised, eco-friendly agency with Disamtex Brazil. Original products include emulsifiers and paper industry process aids.
2007 – Expansion of talc capacity. Customer service laboratory fully operational.
2006 – Shareholders approve Micronized’s conversion to Public Company status – management and employees become shareholders.
2000 - 2002 – Micronized establishes a new head office in Greenside, Johannesburg. Production capacity increases by 60%. A technical formulation service to the industry is introduced.
1995 - 1998 – Production at Micronized’s City Deep facility, south of the Johannesburg CBD, commences and expands. The company’s product range is bolstered by the addition of a titanium dioxide extender. Micronized declines to supply its products to the South African government in protest against racial policies as well as poor corporate security and public protection.
1994 – Micronized introduces & (and) develops new products: Pharmaceutical talc, Barytes (Barium Sulphate) and white granite powders (Feldspar). Micronized’s inhouse manufacturing comprises 75% of its turnover.
1992 – Micronized is nominated for the State President’s Award for Export Achievement.
1991 – Micronized bids for the Minerals division of the Rand London Corporation Ltd and a consortium is formed to purchase the assets. Associate company Micronized’s Milling and Manufacturing develops the first South African micronising and dry particle fractionation technology.
1985 -1989 – Micronized provides employment to conscientious Apartheid objectors. The company employs the first black sales representative in the industry. Micronized refuses to supply the SA government with raw materials in protest against Apartheid social policies. As a result of sanctions against SA several mineral grades are developed to replace imports.
1981 – Micronized commences bulk supply to the cement and animal feed industries. Mica Agency is concluded. Following international health concerns and legislation the company develops an Asbestos (asbestos) replacement system.
1974 - 1977 – Goldflo – a world first development of phyllosilicate, used as a filter aid in the brewery, beverage and dry-cleaning industries. Manufacturing processes and applications are initiated in the sectors of paper manufacture, adhesives, coatings and polymers.
1972 – A world first: the development of vermiculite as a carrier in medicinal applications.
1972 – Micronized establishes an agency and service level agreement to innovate novel uses for vermiculite with Phalaborwa Mining Company
